According to the video from the Gameplay Team Webinar, a block shot is when a robot deliberately moves a game element away from another robot to prevent them from scoring. However, the rules around blocking have changed, and the definition of blocking doesn't appear in this year's competition manual.

Instead, rule G424 states that strategies aimed at shutting down gameplay are not allowed. This rule is intended to prevent defensive play that interferes with the offense's ability to score.

It's also worth noting that defense has always been a part of the game, but the rules are written to favor the offensive side of gameplay.
